Abstract

This article analyses the tendencies in the evolution of Argentinian worker cooperativism. It describes the reach and goals of enterprises to illustrate the doctrinal positions associated with worker cooperativism and the different reasons underlying the structuring and development of initiatives. Distinct dimensions of analysis are used: constitutive situations, regional location, position relative to other strands of cooperativism, restrictive factors to its consolidation and the limitations faced in its development. The analysis suggests that particularly during the previous decades these organizations were seen as temporary solutions, so the policies aimed at promoting cooperative organizations and the tools for turning them into stable and effetive forms have turned out to be scarce, limited and insufficient. In this light it is possible to identify certain recurring difficulties and to consider the broadness of the main challenges met by the actors involved in these experiences.
