Social Assistance Policy in Brazil: The Focus on the Family and the Issue of Social Minimums

Abstract

The objective of this article is to discuss the policies of social welfare in Brazil, epecifically the actions in regards to poverty since the federal constitution of 1988 and Social Assistance Organic Law of 1993 (LOAS). The article broaches the main endencies of these policies, more precisely the entralization in the family, monetary benefits, trimmed by the social minimum, by the focalization, by the solitary work and deficient basic services which make up what is called poverty social welfare work.
