Abstract

This article discusses the punishment mechanisms that society creates and uses guided by a sense of justice when faced with dramatic situations of violence. It addresses the limitations of the public safety and legal measures used to control crime and violence in cities. The presentation of violence in the media and particularly television is also discussed. In conclusion, looking at violent practices often endorsed by some social sectors, the article discusses the marks left on social arrangements by the culture of emptiness and indifference in contemporary society.
